ABOUT

It all started back in 1973 when Allan purchased HUP for preservation. From the start, storage was a problem. But in 1974 HUP moved up to Saltersgate, 30 miles from home. The new place had no electric and no water, but it was dry. In 1975 after attending several rally's, the timing slipped. So it was time to start the restoration work on HUP. The new place was quite big, but when VUP 328 was purchased it was soon filled. Work on HUP was slow being 30 miles from home. But, the breakthrough came in 1977 when Billy Carney of Carney's Coaches (where Allan was working), gave us a space in the garage. And withing two years HUP 236 was fully restored and back on the road! In 1980 CFK 340 was purchased and taken to Carneys Garage for restoration into Carneys Colours. After CFK came YPT 796 to Carneys Garage. But a bomb shell came in 1982! Carney's sold out to Alexander Coaches! Forcing us to move out back in to Saltersgate. Just at that time the North East Bus Preservation Group had moved in to Wardley, Gateshead. So we moved two buses into Wardley. From there restoration on the fleet took off until 17th August 1997 when more devistation came. Sadly Allan past away leading to the end of The Purvis Bros. Restorations.
